Music by Ēriks Ešenvalds for saxophone, voice, and organ
World premiere of Ēriks Ešenvalds’ newest composition
Arrangements of the most beloved Christmas chorales by Raimonds Petrauskis
In addition to cherished Christmas chorales, the concert will feature works by composer Ēriks Ešenvalds, written especially for this trio – saxophonist Oskars Petrauskis, organist Liene Andreta Kalnciema, and French soprano Perrine Madoeuf. In Ešenvalds’ music, the saxophone emerges as a multifaceted and expressive instrument, its timbre blending organically with the rich sound of the organ and the uniquely colorful voice of Perrine Madoeuf, creating an unforgettable festive atmosphere.
A highlight of the concert will be the world premiere of Ēriks Ešenvalds’ latest work – a song cycle composed for this particular ensemble, set to the poetry of French Symbolist master Paul Verlaine. The creation and performance of this piece mark a significant event in both the Latvian and international music scenes.
A central element of the program is the majestic organ of Ventspils Concert Hall “Latvija” – one of the most remarkable instruments in Europe, merging the refinement of the Baroque era with modern technology and an extraordinary range of sound. Under the masterful hands of Liene Andreta Kalnciema, the organ will shine in a special light – from gentle Christmas lyricism to powerful tones that seem to reach the heavens.
We warmly invite you to experience the beauty and peace of the Christmas Visions in music on this special evening!
