Kalsons. De Falla. Vasks

The Concert Hall "Latvija" invites you to an emotionally rich evening of classical music. The program includes outstanding compositions by this year's jubilarians Manuel de Falla, Romualds Kalsons and Pēteris Vasks - from warm Spanish melodies to Latvian, scenic, deeply filled sounds.

Manuel de Falla's "Seven Spanish Folk Songs" (Siete Canciones Populares Españolas, 1914) – exquisite vocal miniatures reveal the colorfulness and temperamental rhythm of Spanish culture revealed in folk melodies. Latvian music classic Romualds Kalsons’ Concerto for Clarinet and Chamber Orchestra (1982) offers an emotionally saturated musical story, in which the clarinet solo stands out with its expressive timbre richness. The program will culminate in Pēteris Vasks’ Concerto for Violin and String Orchestra “Distant Light” (1997) – one of the composer’s best-known works, which intertwines a personal message on the one hand, and a message that is perceptible and emotionally resonant to everyone on the other.

The special atmosphere of the concert will be created by internationally recognized artists – violinist Elīna Bukša, clarinetist Edmunds Altmanis and soprano Katrīna Paula Felsberga, as well as the Ventspils Chamber Orchestra, conductor Aigars Meri. The concert will be conducted by musicologist Liene Jakovļeva, revealing interesting facts about the composers and compositions.
